Area MCA Peter Ngugi Muiruri who was at the demonstration scene said the residents were justified to hold the demonstration since there are at least five mugging incidents in the area every weekend.

“The people I represent are very bitter about the muggings. I have talked with the Administration Police officers in the area AP Camp severally but nothing is done to curb the incidences,” Muiruri said.

He faulted the AP officers for putting more emphasis on guarding assets owned by the rich area men than protecting people.

“People are being mugged and robbed a few metres from where the AP officers are paid just Sh100 to guard people’s vehicles. This means they value money more than life,” he added.

The officers have however blamed the idle young men in social joints indulging in alcohol and playing pool in the market area insisting they will soon apprehend them to curb the incidences.

The incident later bore fruits as the Juja and Witeithie AP officers partnered and conducted a day light raid in the illicit brew dens where it is alleged to be the hiding den for the criminals.

Area police boss Sergent James Linguli said that they caught over 750 litres of chang’aa and arrested 27 men and women who were in the middle of their drinking.

The police have vowed to fight the battle against the brew till it is fully tamed.
