The County Government of Kiambu has come under criticism following deteriorating conditions of a number of feeder roads in Mariaini area, Gatundu North constituency. This comes at a time when the region is experiencing long rains that have rendered most feeder roads impassable, after a long dry spell. On Monday morning, a group of Mariani residents accused area governor, William Kabogo, accusing him of discrimination in terms of roads construction in the area. They said most constituencies (Gatundu South, Thika West and Juja constituencies) have been developed, leaving Mariaini behind in terms of infrastructural development. “The roads here are impassable and this makes it difficult for us to carry out our farming activities. The county government has taken long time to deal with this crisis despite constant reminders from our elected leaders,” said Beatrice Maitha. She added, “We really feel Mariaini is being left behind because we have witnessed significant progress in other constituencies. Development should be equal without discrimination.” Their woes were taken on notice by the area MCA Sammy Gitonga who pledged to move a motion for equal infrastructural developments in the region. “I understand the concern of my area residents, I promise to move a motion in the county assembly that will hinder the county government from neglecting some areas,” Gitonga said.
