A section of Kisii residents has said their lives are in danger following the continuous flow of raw sewage into Kisii's largest river, Riana posing a health hazard to them.
According to the residents of Suneka, which is the most affected, the sewage originates from the Suneka treatment plant and have been carried into the river by the ongoing heavy rains.
"This issue must be addressed immediately because we now fear drawing water from the river due to the filth," said Peter Manoti, one of the residents who is directly affected.
The river has for a long time been the source of water used for domestic purposes by the resident of Riana, Itiero, Suneka, Daraja Mbili and most parts of Migori.
According to Teressa Kerubo, unpleasant odor from the plant affects the residents on an extended radius reaching her residential area about 200 meters away.
"In the recent past, we have experienced an overflow from some of the ponds. We no longer enjoy our meals because the stench is too strong. We are even thinking of moving from this area," she said.
