Residents of Kisumu together with area politicians in Kisumu and Siaya are to stage mass protests to demand the transfer of Nyanza regional police coordinator Willy Lugusa.
Kisumu City Residents Voice Chairman Audi Ogada said together with leaders from Siaya and Kisumu, they are planning a bigger protest seeking to hound Lugusa out of office for failing to take action on his officers he claimed are killing protesters.
“During the anti-IEBC demonstrations, police shot and killed five protesters and injured many yet the regional police boss did not do anything. We will hold demos with leaders to Mr Lugusa’s office and demand that he be transferred for failing to take action on officers under his command,” said Mr Ogada.
Kondele Ward Representative Gabriel Ochieng said notoriety of the rogue officers are known by the members of the public and that the Nyanza Regional Police Coordinator should ensure they are dismissed.
“Transfer of officers does not change their deeds therefore those found culpable should just be dismissed,” said Mr Ochieng.
The protesters also called for seriousness in the manner in which officers handle women who are victims of domestic and sexual violence.
The officer in charge of the Kondele station Mr Muhammed Barr promised to investigate the actions involving his officers, but called on those who are affected to record statements for easier follow up.
