More than 300 residents of Free Area in Nakuru have staged a peaceful demonstration against the area chief accusing him of harassing innocent youth.
The residents marched to the area MCA’s office and demanded that the chief be summoned to explain why he had been working with the police to arrest ‘innocent’ youth.
“We are calling upon the county commissioner to investigate the matter and take action. This move has now led to arrest of more than 10 youth in the last week while some have been beaten up by the officers,” said a resident who pleaded anonymity.
The residents called on the administrator to change his behaviour in line with the rapid results initiative being spearheaded by the office of the president.
Area MCA Humphrey Mwaniki added that he had tried to talk to the chief to hold consultations with the youth instead of arrests without success.
“I think it will be wise for the commissioner to hold a special meeting in the area in order to address our concerns,” said Mwaniki.
The accused chief was however not available for comment as he was said to be out on official duty. Elders attached to his office promised to hold a crisis meeting in relation to the matter.
