Residents of Molo sub-county on Friday afternoon took to the streets, demonstrating over the poor state of the roads in the area.
A group of over hundred residents demonstrated a long the Molo-Kivunja road, complaining of poor roads, which have become a major problem especially to businessmen.
They said that dust; potholes and perennial accidents have dominated the road, as the county government watches without taking any action to repair the road
They vowed not to pay taxes if the county government will not take action immediately and help save the situation.
Mwangi Kamau, a businessman in Molo said the poor road network has caused them huge losses, as many farm produce goes bad before reaching the market.
He said the cost of repairing their trucks has also gone up, as vehicles are repaired on daily basis to keep businesses going,” said Kamau.
“Poor road network had caused us big losses, most of the farm produce goes bad before reaching the market, the cost of servicing the vehicles has also gone up tremendously,” said Kamau.
They also complained of effect caused by dust, terming it as dangerous especially for children and expectant mothers.
Joseph Kinyua, another businessman said if the road will not be repaired in the next few months, then businesses will be paralyzed as nobody will allow his vehicle to operate on he horrific road conditions.
"I am planning withdrew my Matatu from the route to a void losses,” said Kinyua.
The road was under construction a few years ago, with one of the Chinese companies, but they left under unclear circumstances after just laying the first layer.
