Residents of Nyaura village, Kisii Central ward, were left in shock after lost national identity cards were disposed in their area on Sunday evening.
Seven ID cards and one school identity card, from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, were disposed at Menyinkwa- Mwembe road by unknown people.
This shocked the residents as they had never seen such an incident before, terming it as a threat to their security.
The national cards, whose identities were not from Kisii regions, belonged to citizens who ranged from twenty to twenty five years of age.
"This has never happened to this village as we have not had any theft or insecurity cases so far," Owen Ogega, a resident said.
Residents believed that law breakers disposed the IDs far from a crime scene to avoid being traced.
Confirming the incident, Nyaura location chief, Mr George Opande, said that this was a theft case that needed serious investigation to avoid further security threat.
"We need to be extra vigilant and you should report any suspects to my office anytime. Am ready to help my people," he concluded.
Residents blamed the lack of jobs for the youths and the rampant betting machines in the area as the root courses to such crimes.
No suspect has been brought to book so far
