Residents of Kisumu county have been urged to observe high hygiene standards as a sure way of preventing cholera outbreak in the city.
County Chief Clinical Officer Mr. Charles Ngulla on Thursday said that the foremost responsibility of preventing cholera outbreak or any other hygiene related diseases lies with the residents.
He said each individual should put in place hygiene measures such as washing hands with soap after coming from a latrine or a toilet, in order to put diseases at bay.
“It looks simple but washing hands with soap after visiting a toilet, washing hands before preparing food and eating and changing baby diapers may go a very long way in preventing outbreak of diseases such as cholera in our county,” he said.
“Boling drinking water, eating properly cooked food and keeping your utensils in a clean area also matters a lot, " he added.
Mr. Ngulla spoke in wake of cholera outbreaks in a section of counties in the Country.
