The residents dismissed their counterparts who staged demonstrations last week to the Kisii County Commissioner Chege Mwangi's offices demanding the transfer of Mr Cheboi accusing him of compromising the security in the area.

Speaking on Thursday at the Kisii County Commissioner's offices after street demonstrations from Suneka to the county commissioner's offices, the residents led by Isaac Motari said the group which was led by area MCAs John Ombati (Bomorenda Ward), Philip Obote Motonu (Riana Ward) and Protus Moindi (Bomariba Ward) misled the County Commissioner that there was no security in Bonchari.

He clarified that area residents had confidence in Mr Cheboi and his entire security team and those pushing for his transfer and other security officers were driven by selfish political agenda.

"All those individuals who came to the Kisii County Commissioner's office led by MCAs from Bonchari demanding for the transfer of our deputy county commissioner and some of his security team misled the county commissioner since as far as we are concerned there is no security lapse in Bonchari," stated Motari.

Ironically, Motari commended the county commissioner for disbanding the current community policing committees, a demand which the rival team led by the MCAs gave the county commissioner's office to meet within seven days.

"As Bonchari residents we appreciate the county commissioner's move to disband the current community committees to pave way for the committees to be constituted by the members of the public at local level," stated Motari.

In their demand the residents who were last week led by the MCAs had accused Cheboi of instructing the area chiefs to handpick community policing members without allowing the local community members to vet and approve those to serve in the community policing committees.

This, they claimed had given room for criminals to infiltrate the community policing committees, abusing the objective of the community policing initiative in the area.
