Residents of South Mugirango constituency have faulted Environment Cs Keriako Tobiko for trying to interfere with the construction of a sugar factory in the region.

According to the locals led by Milka Moraa, Tobiko should keep off the construction of the factory.The locals said they will not continue being poor just because of protecting trees in forests.

"We need Nyangweta forest to be cleared to create land for the construction of a sugar factory. Cane farmers from Bonchari, South Mugirango, and other neighboring regions will benefit much once the factory is complete,” she said. 

Justine Nyabuto called on Kisii elected to stand firm and ensure the factory is set up in the region without fail. 

“We elected our leaders to defend us and push for development. Construction of the factory in South Mugirango is something the leaders led by Governor James Ongwae need to push hard and anyone opposing its construction should relocate from the region,” said Nyabuto.

 He said area MP Silvanus Osoro should be at the forefront seeking support from other leaders to push the clearing of Nyangweta forest to get land for the construction of the sugar factory.

Our people will not be poor just because of protecting the forest.
