Residents of Gurufa village in Sabena ward are now a happy lot after waiting for decades to have clean tapped water within their reach.
Area residents could not hide their joy as the newly constituted water point was installed.
This will save them kilometres of walking that they usually travel to water their livestock and even collected water for household usage.
Speaking to the local residents after the successfully fixing the long-term water issue in the area, chief officer for Water, Mohamed Ali (Emma) said the project will help alleviate the perennial sufferings brought about by biting water shortages in the past.
Lagdera Sub-County administrator Rashid Hud thanked the county government for listening to the wishes of the area residents and initiating the landmark project.
"Prior to the construction of the Gurufa water boreholes, people here used to move along with their herds for over 20 kilometres to the nearest watering point. We thank our County government for listening to our cries,” said Hud Rashid.
The water point is now expected to serve about 3,000 cattle, 12,000 goats and 1,800 donkeys accessing site each day.
