Residents of Olasi in Nyando constituency who on Tuesday surprised many when they said bathing was their least priority because there is no enough water are now a happy lot after Ogra Foundation on drilled a borehole in the area.

Women complained of how long they have to trek long distances to seasonal rivers, about three kilometers away, to get clean water daily.

Only women and teenage girls have taken the responsibility to travel with donkeys to fetch water.

Grace Owuor noted that many women resort to family planning to deter them from getting pregnant since it is difficult to search for water while expectant.

“Many people here go for several days without bathing, it has been difficult and with water now we are very grateful,” she said.

The Foundation has drilled water at Olasi primary school, which will be enough for more than 1,000 households.

“Several politicians have visited this area and they have used water scarcity in this area as a political tool, unfortunately nothing has been done,” he said.

The Director of the Foundation Dr Hezron Mc'Obewa said his ambition is to see Kisumu County community have access to clean water.

Dr Mc'Obewa said water is critical for a healthy and developmental society and promised to drill ten boreholes across the county.

He sympathised with Olasi people for struggling to get water since independence noting that the situation has led to many dropping out of school.
