The water project came as the world celebrated the International Water Day on Tuesday amid challenges of access to clean water across Africa.

Orongo Secondary Principal Gilbert Ndolo said the project has seen ease return to the school as students have had to battle for water with the members of the community.

Speaking during an interview with this writer on Monday, Mr Ndolo said the community-sponsored school was one of the institutions in the area which have had to shelve some of their activities due to lack of water.

“The school was started in 2007, and in 2010 we started a feeding program. This was not easy to sustain due to lack of sufficient water. We could not plant trees in school and children frequently got water borne diseases. But with the coming of this project life has become good,” said Ndolo.

According to Living Water International Communications Officer Carolyne Magodo, the project funded by Sunriver Christian fellowship and The Richard Lumsden Foundation is one of the water projects done by LWI in the area.

“The water is electric-pumped. Once it is pumped into the tanks, it serves three water points, one for the school, the health centre and the community,” said Magodo.

The community will be expected to pay Sh2 per 20-litre can, which is aimed at raising funds for its maintenance and payment of electricity bills.
