Borabu MP Ben Momanyi was on Monday forced to hastily leave a podium in Kiratu area following disruption of his meeting by a section of residents who were particularly unhappy with the leadership of county governor John Nyagarama.
Trouble began when a members of public was invited to the podium by the MP to make his remarks regarding the development projects that had been launched through the legislator’s leadership, only for the meeting to shift focus to the county boss.
Mr John Mbunde, who was invited, said the MP was working closely with the county government that had allegedly failed to spur growth in the region.
“We are not blaming your leadership but concerned with your association with the governor. He (Nyagarama) has failed to spur growth in the county and whoever associates with him like you is an enemy of people,” Mbunde said amidst cheers.
Efforts by the MP to defend himself from the accusations were fruitless as angry crowd chanted anti-Nyagarama songs and threatened to punish the MP if he insisted on supporting the county government, forcing the MP to flee the function.
Mr Momanyi, who later spoke on phone, said he was keen to support development initiated by the governor for the sake of reducing political temperatures in the county.
“They have a right to put their leaders on check and as a leader; I also have a right to partner with other leaders for the sake of development. As leaders, we have to work as a team to spar growth instead of dwelling in political intrigues. I will continue working with all leaders whether MCAs or the governor,” said Bosire.
