Maji Mazuri residents in Nakuru County are out in protests to condemn their leaders over bad road networks in the area.
The residents say the situation has led them to incur huge losses especially when taking their farm products to the market. The small shopping centre that is usually a beehive of activities was yesterday at a standstill when the residents decided that enough was enough and they could no longer live with the impassable roads.
“Today we have packed all our matatus and asked all the businessmen and the farmers who bring their farm products to this market to join us. We want to pressure the government to at least repair these roads for us,” said one driver, Solomon Kung’u.
“We mothers have a big problem. We cannot even travel with our small kids because you will be charged up to Sh500 to go to Nakuru town,” Elizabeth Mwikali, another resident said.
They argue that the market days in the area are fading because goods can hardly get in or out of the market. They are calling upon the county government as well as Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) to step in and address the situation before it gets out of hand.
