Kisii county residents on Friday moved to Kisii Law Courts seeking orders to direct the County government to close Daraja Mbili slaughterhouse.
Led by John Mesaria they said the county government should close the facility since it poses a health threat.
"Foul smell and dirty water from the slaughterhouse makes it hard for us staying around to be at our houses. We want the facility closed until the management will improves hygiene," he said.
Meseria said poor drainage system has led to water stagnant and this has given room for mosquitoes breeding.
"Our health is at risk because we are fearing an outbreak of diseases such as malaria caused by mosquitoes," he added.
The locals faulted Kisii governor James Ongwae for failing to improve the facility as he promised.
"Governor Ongwae promised to improve the state at the facility but nothing has been done until today. We have been sidelined for long and it is time to tell Ongwae that we are tired. We hope the court will issue an order to close the facility for the sake of our good health," said Oyaro Onchego.
By the time of going to the press, the residents we camping outside Kisii law courts to file a case.
