A landslide has occurred in a section of Mt Kenya Forest leading to the destruction of about one acre of land.

This comes following the heavy rains that continue to be experienced in the area.

Residents of Kangiri Village, Nyeri County, expressed fear that livestock and wildlife could be trapped in the mud after the Saturday night incident.

The area is home to many elephants and residents have reported spotting several of the animals roaming since Saturday.

The mud has blocked River Muhuhi that serves as a watering point for wildlife.
