Jubilee leaders in Kilifi County have intensified their campaigns ahead of the Thursday repeat presidential election.Led by Mining CS Dan Kazungu who was speaking in Malindi Town, the leaders called on residents to ignore NASA’s calls to boycott the polls.Kazungu urged residents to stop focusing on party loyalty and instead re-elect President Uhuru Kenyatta as he said had initiated different development projects in the county, including the Malindi Sala gate road which is under construction. The CS said residents in the county have been voting for the opposition despite the Jubilee administration’s commitment to developing the region.Kazungu said in the August 8 election, President Uhuru garnered only 13,000 in Malindi constituency, a move he says put him in an awkward situation as he was regarded to have delivered few votes to Jubilee. He said it was high time Coast residents redeemed themselves by supporting Uhuru’s re-election bid.The CS argued it was shameful for the President to continue supporting a region that has remained loyal to the opposition yet other communities supporting NASA have ditched the opposition for the ruling party.Speaking at a separate event which was attended by over 700 women from Al Nusra, a microfinance organization, former Kilifi Wiper gubernatorial candidate Michael Tinga pledged support for President Uhuru.Tinga said he will support Uhuru since NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga had withdrawn from the repeat presidential election.Tinga argued that the Jubilee government has been friendly to the Coastal community by nominating Senator Christine Zawadi from Ganze despite garnering few votes from the region. He accused Raila of interfering with local politics in the county, citing the recent MCA nominations where he alleged three members fromRaila’s community were given slots in the Kilifi County Assembly at the expense of residents. The politician also called on youth to ignore the NASA protests which are set to resume on Tuesday, terming them a recipe for chaos.
