Joash Monari was killed last week by anonymous people, few Kilometers from Chepilat Township, along the Sotik-Borabu border.

During the burial, most speakers seemed to fiercely attack area Chief Norman Ogega for harbouring criminals, despite residents revealing their identity, with Monari’s demise coming a few weeks after a similar incident that resulted in the death of two brothers.

“We have tried to investigate and the answer seems to be the same. These deaths are similar and assailants are people we know. They are bandits who have for a long time engaged in cattle rustling,” said area MCA Alfayo Nyakundi.

He added that provincial administration has done little to deal with criminals, who have given area residents sleepless nights during this festive season.

“When you hear someone has a brewing industry, you arrive there and apprehend without hesitating. But when we are killed, you do shoddy investigations and perpetrators walk scot-free. This habit ought to end,” he added.

However, many residents asked Ogega to resign for failing to secure them from persisting attacks from suspected cattle rustlers.

“We demand that Ogega resigns. He seems to understand the motive of the attacks and that is why his team is reluctant to act decisively,” said Boniface Ombiro, a resident.

Ogega defended his administration, terming the blame as “uncalled for and full of flaws”, since he has requested people to record statements over the same but none has ever done so.

“These are baseless claims. I have always said that matters security are collective but no one has given us crucial information that can lead to apprehension of these criminals,” said Ogega.
