Residents in Kibera slums on Saturday morning lauded the county government for conducting an extensive garbage collection exercise in the area.
The exercise began at Mashimoni area with the garbage collecting truck going around the slum to collect the heaps of garbage that had been dumped in the last one month.
The residents had earlier on blamed their landlords and caretakers for failing to call garbage collecting trucks to take away the garbage something the residents claimed could lead to a Cholera outbreak.
"The heaps of garbage had been lying on the dumping sites for several days. This is very good and the move to collect the garbage is a positive move as this will help maintain the cleanliness of our living premises," said Mercy Joy, a resident.
The truck attendants were spotted helping out at the dumping sites to put garbage wastes into the trucks as it was ferried away.
Many residents from the slums expressed their satisfaction with the garbage collectors authority from the county government and lauded the operations pointing out that this will reduce cases of disease outbreaks in the slums where many people live.
