Residents of Athi River town have lauded the Machackos County Government for lighting the town thereby prolonging time of doing business in the region.
Addressing press in Athi River on Tuesday, the residents through their spokesperson Janet Muindi, said the county government had achieved by lighting the lights which had remained unfunctional for the last seven months,
"We are happy and excited that the project which most of us have always referred to as white elephant has eventually been completed," said excited Muindi.
Muindi argued that lighting the streets from DEVK off Nairobi - Mombasa Highway to Vannillas Hotel along Nairobi - Namanga Road through Athi River town was major achievement.
She said the residents had no excuse for not competing with Mlolongo and Kitengela towns in doing businesss given that lighting would ensure improved security in the region.
The spokesperson lamented that the town had remained behind for longer times since it could not allow for business operations longer times through the night.
The residents said they would keep vigilant to ensure no persons of ill motives interfeared with the lights arguing there were lots of hooligans in the town who might be attempted to vandalyse the connections for their ill motive reasons and gains.
