The residents say it is now easier to drive in and out of town without fear of being attacked for damaging their goods.

“We used to fear stepping into their wares, which would emanate into a big fight and war of words I can now move well with my car without being intimidated by anyone,” said Nicole Kimani, a resident in the town.

She added that the town was less congested as compared to before, making it easier to move around and looking more organized.

“The town is slowly becoming the once beautiful city it was known to be. It had become filthy and people were slowly avoiding it,” she added.

Brian Kemboi, another area resident noted that there was better orgnisation now, saying it had lost the sense of being in a town due to the congestion and loud noises.

“The town now looks like it has a plan, unlike before where things were scattered everywhere,” said Kemboi.

Governor Mbugua had issued a directive in his Jamuhuri Day speech, saying all hawkers needed to be out of the CBD in the New Year.

In his speech, Mbugua said that the council had located another place, where they would be taken to.
