Residents of Kiambu County have lauded area governor for bringing on board noise pollution limiting machines which were imported last month from South Africa. The residents observed that many vehicles have reduced noise inside their vehicles which was disturbing. ‘It’s a nice move although some vehicles have continued to behave in a rowdy way, the machines should now be put in churches, and main buses in Thika town; they are really destructive to many of us,” Janet Wangeci, a Thika resident said. Johnston Muthama, a business person in Makongeni-Thika, said many accidents will be reduced after machines are put in place. “I highly commend the county’s decision to handle the disturbing matter,” Beatrice Maina said. According to Andrew Kimani the county environment director, those caught breaking sound and weather related rules will seriously be dealt with. “The law will take its course for any offenders in this county. We will liaise with NEMA to put into effect the already imported machines and sensitise residents on their presence before they are caught on the wrong side,” said Kimani.
