A section of Kibera residents on Monday hailed former Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru for the various slum upgrading projects she initiated in the area.
Waiguru resigned on Saturday citing health reasons.
However, the residents have hailed her initiatives that aimed to give the slum a face-lift.
“The CS was determined to see a clean Kibera through the National Youth Service project. As a youth, I used to earn wages after engaging in the project and thus transforming my living standards. Waiguru is a strong woman,” said Anne Muthoni.
As for Vivian Cheruyiot of Olympic market, the former CS's efforts to give the slum a new look had started bearing fruit.
“Although I am still coming to terms with her sudden resignation, I am happy that the work she started in Kibera can be seen. Look at the garbage trucks that were brought here, they have really helped in garbage disposal,” said Cheruyiot.
Mauris Maundo said the construction of public toilets by the Devolution ministry through the NYS project has helped residents’ access clean toilets and bathrooms.’
“Waiguru has helped change Kibera and on behalf of those who see the changes, I must say I am grateful for her efforts,’ said Maundo.
