Suneka residents in Bonchari constituency led by Bomorenda MCA have challenged the office of the Kisii County Commissioner Chege Mwangi to allow them to elect community-policing members in the area that can provide sufficient security for them.
According to them, Bonchari constituency chiefs, OCS and DC have an authority to conduct the exercise of selecting community-policing members who have been noticed to solicit money from resident then provide security what they termed as corruption.
Speaking on Wednesday at Kisii County Commissioner’s office when they demonstrated over insecurity in the area, Bomorenda ward representative John Ombati who led the demonstrators challenged the office of the commissioner to allow Suneka residents to elect community policing members instead of having chiefs, a DC, and an OCS, if they want to reduce crime cases in the area.
“Suneka residents want to elect community policing members in the area who can provide them with adequate security. What we want from the office of the County Commissioner is an authority to conduct the exercise,” said Mr Ombati.
Kisii Deputy County Commissioner declined to comment on the issue, saying he is not authorised to issue statements regarding the matter on behalf of the County Commissioner, who was unreachable.
