Kisii residents are now demanding the National Environment Management Authorities (NEMA) to quickly react to save the dirty state of Kisii town and its rivers.
According to those that spoke to Hivisasa, Kisii water catchment areas specially the river flowing through Daraja Mbili market is full of plastic wastes, sewage and other solid wastes.
In some areas, including Nyanchwa and Mwembe, sewage pipes flow beside the rivers.
"Kisii town is very dirty and no one cares, its a matter of survive at your own risk. For that reason we want NEMA to intervene and help clean the environment," said James Nyakano, a resident.
The residents also blamed motorists for washing their vehicles in rivers. They also said that other residents carelessly dump wastes into the rivers.
"Ever since I started living in Kisii, i have never witnessed the town being as dirty as it now looks. We even fear that we might contaminate diseases," Ms Natalie Orina said.
She wondered where plastic bags that are thrown into the rivers came from despite the fact that the Kenyan Government banned usage of plastic bags.
Contacted, NEMA officials neither responded to our text messages nor answered our calls.
