Kenyans have been asked to be willing to donate blood.

The Deputy Director of Kisumu Regional Blood Transfusion Centre Dr Mathew Odera said the centre does not have enough blood due to the small number of people who are willing to voluntarily come out and donate blood.

He said they serve many hospitals in the Western Region, hence the need for more blood, appealing the locals to embrace blood donation.

“In this region, children suffering from malaria and mothers who give birth normally need a lot of blood. Locals must be willing to donate blood to help us comfortably reach out to them,” said the doctor.

He said students are some f the biggest blood donors. “On most occasions we do visit institutions such as universities for blood donation campaigns. The response is always positive” he said.
