Residents of Makao estate on the borders of Nakuru-East and Bahati Constituencies have faulted a proposal to construct a police post on a local public land.
The residents were led by Doctor Emmanuel Kavai, the chairman of Makao Residents Welfare Group. Kavai spoke at the area business centre today and said that he opposed the police post as a waste of public funds.
He also saw the appointment as unnecessary since the area is already served by Teachers police post which he said was barely a ‘stone throw away’ from the proposed police post site.
Kavai said that the public piece of land which Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua officially identified to be used to construct a public administration facility building some time last year should be used to house an agricultural extension office instead of a police post as that would be tantamount to duplication of public services.
“Although ideally this area is in Bahati, we get services from the Teachers police post which falls under Nakuru Subcounty. Police services cut across the order because theirs is to serve all citizens. Why should we duplicate services? What we need here is an agricultural extension office to provide services to our farmers .We will petition this to the Governor and the County Commissioner,’’ said Kavai.
Kavai added that the area has many farmers who travel all the way to Nakuru or Bahati sub county centre to seek services.
