Nakuru chief public health officer Samuel King'ori issued the directive on Sunday, giving a 24-hour notice for the tenants to immediately move out of the houses.

“We visited the site and saw that the floor of the buildings had already started cracking and the walls were cracking creating fears that it might cave in any time,” said King'ori in a press release on Sunday.

He added that the houses had been experiencing massive floods since the heavy rains started. King'ori said that the toilets were also in a poor condition.

“Most of the sewer water was mixed with rainwater creating the risk of a cholera outbreak,” he added.

According to Kingori, they will soon start inspecting houses and flats to establish their conditions.

“We are also calling on engineers and National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to help in assessing the building which if left unchecked will end up being catastrophic.” He added

The move comes amidst the displacement of at least 2000 families in Nakuru West being displaced by floods.
