Those intending to organise big family or social events in Athena and Kiang'ombe have been called upon to observe the highest level of hygiene possible.
Residents also intending to slaughter cattle like cows, goats or sheep at home have also been asked to seek the services of area veterinary officer to have their animals checked before they are slaughtered and consumed.
The call was made on Friday by Thika West sub-county Deputy Public Health Officer Jane Wanyoike at Athena Shopping Centre who also requested the area chief and sub-chief to enforce the directive.
Wanyoike said that the possibility of cholera outbreak was high due to the ongoing heavy rains in the area which she said would be further complicated if proper hygiene was not maintained in cooking and eating areas.
"Nobody will be prevented from enjoying their holidays the best way they know how. However, we are calling on everyone to take precautionary measures especially those intending to prepare big feasts and slaughter cattle," said Wanyoike.
Makongeni Chief Daniel Waiguru on his part promised to ensure that rules regulating all social events are followed.
"Ours is an all-round job be it health, security, hygiene and so on. We will be there to ensure that all set rules that are meant for public good are obeyed," Waiguru assured.
