Three thousand signatures have been collected from Kuresoi North residents to support a petition tabled before the Senate decrying the poor state of Chepsir-Kuresoi Road.
Nyota ward MCA Njuguna Gichamu said they resorted to collecting the signatures and tabling them before the Senate in a bid to have answers on why the area has been neglected by the government.
Speaking on the phone on Thursday, the MCA said the road has for the past 50 years been used as a campaign tool by politicians and promises made by previous governments to tarmac it have never come to.
“Even our grandfathers would tell us that during their time, the government had promised to tarmac this road. Our fathers told us the same and now we are here and nothing has been done yet,” he said.
He also said the area is an agricultural zone but most of the farm produce has not benefited farmers due to poor road network.
“Farmers in the area have suffered for a long time because there are no roads and transporting their produce is a challenge. They gain nothing from farming yet that is their lifeline,” he said.
A resident from the area, Pistus Njenga, said he has lost faith in the government since it has not kept its promise of improving roads in the area.
Gichamu, together with area residents, hope that their petition to the Senate will help them have proper road network soon.
