Residents of Eburru in Gilgil constituency have pleaded with Nakuru County government to repair Thome Dam.

Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation Gilgil branch chairperson Lydia Nyota said the dam is their only source of water but lamented it is now in bad shape.

"We urge Governor Lee Kinyanjui to help us because the long rains are about to start and we need the dam rectified so that we can harvest water," she told The Standard on Thursday.

According to Nyota, the dam was constructed during the Kazi Kwa Vijana initiative in the former grand coalition government.

She said recent efforts by the National Youth Service (NYS) to rehabilitate the water source have failed.

"Now that water is a devolved function, we want the county to intervene and save us from the crisis," Nyota added.
