The county government of Nyamira has been lauded for putting mechanisms in place to put infrastructures and human resource in a bid to control the largest hospital in the county.

According to them, Nyamira hospital had struggled to reach the status of other old hospitals from the Gusii region till the county government came in place.

On Thursday, residents hailed the Governor John Nyagarama for improving the facilities and adding the infrastructures in the region.

“If you ever came to this hospital two years ago, the image is a total contrast. The county government has done a lot by improving the infrastructure and the human resource. We are getting quality services and this is recommendable,” said Mr Elijah Obwoge, a veteran community leader.

They were also impressed with the hospital’s mortuary which was previously associated with foul smell that literally brought activities in the town to stand still.

“If you happen to access the mortuary facilities, the county has really improved them and the town is no longer smelly. Activities are done as usual in the town and this is really recommendable,” added Mr Obwoge on behalf of the residents.

County chief health officer Douglas Bosire hinted of a further improvement of the hospital to allow elevation to a teaching and referral hospital for the proposed Nyamira University.

“The county is working hard to improve the facilities for promotion. We are about to establish a university and producing medical graduates will be among the plans,” he said.
