A businessman on Friday morning lost his gun to a gang of criminals who raided Kisukioni market in Matungulu sub-county, Machakos County.
The gangsters, who were armed with crude weapons stormed the market at dawn and broke into various business premises before stealing a gun from a local bar operator.
Matungulu OCPD Joseph Chesire confirmed the thugs stole a gun from a local trader. “I have visited the trader at Kangundo Hospital and confirmed that he lost his firearm to the thugs,” Chesire told The Standard.
According to eye witnesses, the bandits went on a shops-breaking spree for nearly twenty-five minutes without police responding despite area Deputy County Commissioner's offices being situated at the shopping centre.
The market traders association chairperson Jackson Mua blamed local Administration Police Officers who allegedly turned a deaf ear to distress calls by the victims of the raid.
"Residents informed the local Administration Police officers but they failed to take action on the incident,” Mua told The Standard over the phone.
The residents blocked the Tala-Donyo Sabuk road to protest over the incident but area DC Patrick Mwangi calmed them by assuring them that the incident would be thoroughly probed.
