The residents now want the intervention of the government in the matter.

The residents said that since the end of former President Kibaki's regime, the place has been suffering acute water shortages.

One of the residents in the area, Fatuma Ahmed said that she has been going to the GAWASCO offices countless times for the last four years to seek a solution to the problem but all in vain. Ahmed added that children sometimes remain behind to help their parents in looking for water instead of being in school.

Another protester, Ismail Shukri said that they had approached the county leadership including the governor to come to their aid but only gave empty promises.

When contacted, GAWSCO managing director, Abdi Hajji admitted that some parts of the area have been lacking water but not for the past four years. Hajji said most of the people in the outskirts of the town are known to illegally tap water reducing pressure from the main line and Bulla Rhama was one of them.

The Garissa County assembly recently formed a committee to investigate the lack of water in parts of Garissa town that used to receive water during the days of national government.
