The locals claimed that police officers serving in the area have been colluding with criminals to commit crimes.

“Police officers in the area are not useful. They have turned against us by allowing criminals to rob us and take our valuables and money to them. It is time Matiang’i acts on this concerns or we forcefully evict police officers from this area," said Justine Onchari, a local.

Mr Onchari said that in a most recent incident where two guards were shot dead by criminals, police uniforms were discovered at the scene of crime but police failed to give a detailed explanations.

The protests affected transport along the Kisii-Migori road for several hours before police officers cleared the road for motorists.

Gucha assistant county commissioner James Wambua said police officers are doing everything possible to restore security in the area.

“Members of the public should remain calm as we probe the matter to flush out the criminals from the area. Police uniforms that were found at a crime scene last week are being investigated to know the officers who have turned to be criminals for a legal action to be taken,” he said.
