Residents of Chepilat in Borabu constituency Nyamira County held a protest over the killing of a 35 year-old business man, identified as Peter Okioma. Borabu police boss, Anthony Onyango, said that they received a call at around 1am that there was robbery taking place in the town. Onyango said that he sent his officers who met three men, who took off, and that is when they shot at them and the bullet hit him. “Someone called the station and told us that there was a robbery going on in Chepilat and I sent my officers there, on arriving three men started running and the officers shot and killed one whom they found in possession of a fake gun,” he said. However, the residents of Chepilat have refuted claims that the deceased was in possession of the fake gun saying that it is the officer that killed him that put it on him to cover up for killing the wrong person. The residents say that Okioma had no problem with people of the town and that he peacefully conducted his business. They also called on the Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery to take action against the officers that killed Okioma and called for their transfer.
