Residents of the Kibera slum have raised concern over the rising cost of water for their domestic use hence risking their health.
The residents carried out a peaceful demonstration on Wednesday morning.
They explained that they spend a lot of money buying water from vendors and yet it was supposed to be provided for by the county government.
Jack Onyango, a resident of Olympic Estate at Kibera said he spends more than Sh6,500 monthly on water which goes for Sh60 per 20-litre jerry can of fresh water or Sh25 for salty water.
“The cost of living has gone up due to the additional costs of water, we are now forced to dig deeper into our pockets as one cannot survive without it,” he stated.
Salty water from the boreholes is cheap but you cannot drink it or use it to wash clothes as it stains them,” he added.
Perennial water shortage has always been experienced in most parts of Kibera for the last two month due to the repair of the system.
