The residents say that they have become a main target for rapists who observe their routine and end up taking advantage of them.

An area resident, who sought anonymity for fear of being attacked again said she was attacked in her house by a gang.

“I was in my house when they came and tied me up after which they gang raped me. I could not scream as they had covered my mouth. When they finished, they started laughing and even took their time to finish the food that I had prepared,” she said.

She claimed that even though she pleaded with them, they continued to intimidate her.

Peter Njoroge, a resident, claimed that the gang is a well-known group.

“We have heard of more than fifty cases of rape among single mothers in the last one month. We believe many more are keeping quiet for fear of being intimidated or hurt,” he added.

Nominated Member of County Assembly Esther Njeri Mengere promised to look into the issue.

“We are appealing to the police and the government to improve the security in the area to prevent such attacks. This ordeal is traumatising and unfortunate,” she added.
