They claim that the beggars are now utilizing the space that was cleared by the county government and are slowly creeping in the town.

Speaking to the press, majority of the residents expressed fears that if left unchecked, they could become a nuisance.

“They have just resurfaced and we are not aware where they came from. They have been slowly increasing for the last one week especially since there is more space in town due to the clearance of hawkers and matatus,” said Abigail Mureithi, a resident.

She claims that this will deem the work of the governor useless.

Sarah Muthoni, another resident,  pointed out that many had already started securing different spots in town.

“Every day we see an upsurge in their number. It’s as if they were calculating on strategic places in the town,” said Muthoni Susan Njeri.

Residents have now appealed to the county government to use the same measures it used to rid the hawkers.

“They should control the influx of the beggars by kicking them out. Its unfair for them to get rid of the people who were earning a living to replace them with beggars,” Njeri added.
