There were mixed reactions in Wajir after the court quashed a petition seeking to disregard an earlier ruling nullifying Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud win in the August 8 election of 2017.
The ruling has brought lot reactions in Wajir County with people talking about the ruling widely on social media and the county at large.
Here are some of the reactions.
“I can’t believe that we are heading back into the ballot again. It is time we chose our leaders decisively. Now that we have been given a second chance then we must utilize,” said Gurba Jaba.
They noted that the rule of law surpasses every individual.
“Politicians must know that the rule of law surpasses every individual in the country as most of them have forgotten. I must thank the judges for being courageous in their ruling,” noted Abdi Ibrahim.
“We cannot be ruled by a leader who is not learned. The threshold of the gubernatorial race should be held high and politicians should not forget that they do not rule just because they have money but they must have brains too,” stated Mohamed Raman.
Others, however, were against the ruling noting that it will derail development in the region.
“We are now back again into the ballot box. Electioneering period despite the long August elections. This will have an adverse effect on our economy in the region. The two leaders should go seat and agree on who will lead without having to waste our time. Now is time to work,” said Martin Mbugua a businessman in the region.
“We were denied the governorship seat despite winning in August elections. The courts have misled the people of Wajir,” noted Harka Bin.
“I am very disappointed that Mohamud has lost his governor’s seat after all the hustle he went through in the campaigns. All the best for him for there is nothing else we can do,” said Abu Mahir.
