Nyamira County residents have reacted after police nabbed over 2000 kilograms of contaminated sugar in Nyamira.
The locals claimed that police should be vigilant and ensure cartels penetrating contraband sugar into the county are arrested and prosecuted in a court of law.
“We are in danger because the cartels are targeting to sell contaminated sugar to us in deep villages.
"We call upon the security team to ensure no contaminated sugar is brought to Nyamira for us to buy,” said a Nyamira township ward resident Edward Omanga.
Faith Manoti, a shopkeeper assured that she will not allow her suppliers to supply her bad sugar.
“I am keen to ensure I don’t purchase contaminated sugar from my suppliers since I care for the health of my customers. Rogue suppliers should know the law will not spare them,” she noted.
Eldanus Machoni, another local commended Interior Cs Fred Matiang’i’s efforts to end illicit trade in the country.
Mr. Machoni urged Matiang’i not to bend laws to allow cartels continue with illicit trade in the country.
