Residents of Garissa constituency have expressed mixed reactions over the alleged land grabbing of Garissa high school.
Hundreds of Garissa High students yesterday morning poured ONto the streets to protest against the act.
They destroyed several stalls erected at the adjacent compound of the school, accusing well-known cartels of encroaching school's land fraudulently.
The infuriated students afterward marched to the governor 's office where they sought his urgent intervention to spare the school land from being grabbed illegally.
The entire fracas that partially brought to the booming businesses of the busy town to a standstill has elicited mixed reactions among the residents.
Majority of them have condemned the alleged land grabbing while a small chunk called for a thorough investigation before conclusions are made.
Below is a sample of the residents' reactions.
Halima Hussien, a parent, said" As parents, we are not happy with what is going on in the school. Land issue here in Garissa is very emotive . The school land has been there for 3 decades now. If what is being said is true then it is an inherent right of our students to defend their school's land."
Qadar Mowlid said," Rumours are not far from fact. The kind of hostility students witnessed yesterday was shocking. If indeed cartels are intending to allocate themselves their school's land, then I think it is the best thing they could do to ward them off.
"Mumina Sheik said," Our elected leaders should intervene in this grave matter immediately and solve it amicably to forestall any imminent danger."
