Most schools in the country kicked off their second term yesterday after closing for a month-long holiday.
In Kisumu, some students reported back only to find their headteachers transferred to different regions.
The transfer elicited mixed reactions, with a section of residents questioning why some teachers had been shifted yet they were almost retiring.
A group of locals who spoke to a Hivisasa writer had this to say about the transfers:
Jack Otono: I love the shake-up. At least they will be more serious in their duties wherever they will be assigned to.
StellaMurimi: Some heads have owned the schools. They behaved like no one can punish them. No one will tolerate them away from home.
Marvel Ojwang’: It's a good idea. The new teachers will bring new ideas.
Jackie Akinyi: Transferring almost retiring teachers is a bad idea. Let them retire at home.
Ronald Ongemi: Don’t transfer teachers to insecure areas. Let those familiar with the environment work there.
Ignatius Mulanga: Interacting with new teachers leads to national cohesion and integration.
Sharon Okoth: Children were used so much to people they see around, they couldn’t respect them.
Victor Agwanda: Terrible idea. Teachers can turn against new heads.
Lillian Akello: It will lead to high level of professionalism among teachers
Evans Bett: I have no problem with this as long as it works efficiently.
