The reconciliation of Deputy President William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Thursday morning came as a surprise to many residents.
The two hugged each other during the National Prayer Breakfast.
The deputy president has all along been uncomfortable with the Uhuru-Raila handshake.
The leaders also vowed to unite in the fight against corruption.
Over the past months, there has been a wide rift between Kisumu residents and the deputy president, following his differences with Raila.
A Hivisasa writer interviewed residents in Kisumu, and here are some of their reactions:
Danny Oluoch: Good step. We are going forward.
Allan Binga: I will never forgive Ruto.

Angelica Modi: Ruto never meant the handshake.
Lillian Namuye: Ruto can never be trusted.
Esther Odunga: Ruto knew what he was doing.
Oscar Mango: Ruto hates Raila. He was under pressure.
Joy Omil: Ruto will turn against Raila.
Ezra Onziri: We want Kenyans to be united.
