Residents of Athi River town are a happy lot.
After more than 4 weeks of “dry spell”, they finally have water in their taps.
It seems the water problem has finally been resolved as residents look forward to a reduction of water prices.
Athi River residents have, for the past weeks coughed a lot of cash to purchase water, a basic commodity.
During the “dry spell,” water prices shot up more than 50 % and while water vendors smiled all the way to the bank, residents were left turning their pockets inside out.
Prices of water in Athi River town had gone up to Sh100 for a 20 litre jerrican of fresh water.
Previously, this used to cost Sh30.
Price of a 20 litre jerrican of salty water had equally risen to Sh40 Up from Sh20.
During the “dry spell,” Mavoko Water and Sewerage Company sent text messages to residents of Mavoko urging them to use water sparingly and be patient as the problem was being sorted out.
Residents are now hoping that the taps will remain running.
