Mombasa residents have told Governor Hassan Joho to "wake up", face the reality and clear the garbage that is stocked in most areas of the Coastal city.
Residents who called in during a morning talk show on Radio Jambo accused the county chief who is serving his second term to laxity in ensuring he works towards beautifying Kenya's second largest town.
Abdikadir Ahmed who operates a workshop in Kisauni said seing garbage is now a common phenomenon wondering how the tourism industry in the county will grow with the garbage piles all over the place.
"It is his duty, he swore to work for the betterment of the county and all its people. We expect nothing short of a clean city," he said.
Another called Fatma Ali said residents who voted for the former Kisauni MP will have to blame themselves for making a wrong choice at the ballot adding that there were better leaders to vote for during the poll. She said Joho is not competent enough to transform Mombasa into a modern city.
Abubakar Twaha on his part said: "We knew he would not perform. However, we will have to live with this tragedy for the next five years."
Joho's main challenger during campaigns for August 8 polls, Suleiman Shahbal (Jubilee) constantly called on Mombasa voters to reject the prominent businessman at the ballot saying his experience would not enable Mombasa achieve its dream of becoming a model city in the region.
