Police officers in Itierio area on Wednesday afternoon were forced to use force to disperse a crowd of locals who scrambled for free bottles of beer after a lorry overturned.
Police say that the lorry was heading to Suneka town but the driver lost control while he avoided hitting a pro-box car and the bus landed in a ditch.
"It's unfortunate that locals were rushing to the scene of the accident and instead of helping the driver out they started enjoying the bottles of beer," said Mr Edwin Kiptanui the Kisii- Migori highway patrol officer.
He said that the people dispersed after police officers arrived at the scene of the accident.
Mr Kiptanui said that as others were drinking at the scene of the accident those having motorbikes ferried the crates to their homes.
"The driver who was the only one on board got minor injuries and he was taken to Nyangena Hospital in Kisii county," Mr Kiptanui said.
