Residents of Wajir County have welcomed the move by the Members of the county assembly to allocate Sh.46million towards the fight against drought in the county.

The situation prompted the county speaker to convene a special sitting that saw the budget passed. The residents have lauded the county government, saying that the approval of the budget is a great milestone in the fight against drought.

The residents also thanked the media for raising their concern over time.

“I want to thank God, the media and the county government for coming to our rescue. Were it not for the media our problems could not have been highlighted, prompting the county to act,” said Habiba Ali, a resident of Wajir South, as quoted by Star.

Resident Abdi Mohamed from Wajir North also reiterated Ali’s sentiments saying that the MCAs did the residents proud following the new budget approval.

“I want to thank the MCAs and express my gratitude at the speedy passing of the budget. They surely put the interests of Wajir residents at the forefront,” he said.

This comes at a time when the national and county government have vowed to work together to ensure drought is a thing of the past
