Bomariba location chief Triposa Orina on Wednesday said parents in the region should desist from the practice before the law catches up with them.

She said the practice is outlawed and anyone found will face the full force of the law.

"FGM is illegal and no one will be allowed to take girls. We are on high alert to arrest any parent found forcing the practice on girls," said the administrator.

She called on residents to find an alternative right of passage for girls since circumcision is only allowed for boys.

The chief urged Nyumba Kumi officials to be more vigilant in the villages to report any family conducting the illegal practice secretly.

"Each village in the Sub-county has Nyumba Kumi members who should keep watch and report anyone committing the act to girls for a legal action to be taken," she added.

She also asked girls to report their parents if they may be forced to undergo FGM.
